Welcome to The Commons
Peabody and its surrounding communities are rich in tradition and diversity. The rich heritage of our region has been forged over nearly four centuries and this history is alive in every neighborhood, city and town in our region. What will it take for our cities and towns to thrive and prosper over the next century? How will politics in our communities influence our economy and our culture? Who is active now in city halls, non-profits, schools, small businesses, and other community organizations, doing work that will shape the future of our city, region, state, and perhaps even our country and the world?

I live in Saugerties, a small town on the Hudson River about 100 miles north of New York City. I've been here for 19 years, longer than anywhere else. I like to think about how I could shape the future of this community. I like to imagine what it might look like, how it could be better.
ReplyDeleteAnd I can easily imagine how those of us living in small towns all around could join in imagining and shaping a future that combined the intimacy of our towns with the impact of a larger collective.
I have more questions than answers, being more of a dreamer than a social engineer. Here goes:
Everyone is busy doing what they love to do.
No one is doing anything just for the money.
Everyone agrees that ostentation and wealth are tacky.
If anyone eats, we all eat.
We participate in both growth and dimunition in the natural flow, as we participate individually in birth, growth, aging decay and death.
